or, I can only learn by reinventing the wheel
And reinventing the wheel is something I have done all my life, along with reading what others had to go through while doing the same, and what conclusions they have arrived at in the process, but it never occurred to me to share what I learn when I’m bored and decide to try something new, different or just vaguely interesting.

Of course, there is something to be said about wasting time redoing things others have already done, but it is not about doing stuff, it’s all about the learning process. I have done so many things in my personal life that eventually morphed into skills I applied professionally, so I do think that curiosity is a skill one should have when working anywhere, but from my personal experience as an IT geek, currently a coder but having done oh so much to get here, it is something I believe is required to be any good in our fields.
And so many people lack it, the curiosity and the attention to detail one gains from not having a script to follow. So there’s that. I hope we can all learn something, and I sincerely hope you can all take the time to teach me stuff along the way too! (Yes, I am talking to you)
This is not a coding blog, or an “anything” blog for that matter. Having been on the bleeding edge of technology for the vast majority of my life and given it’s definitely still 1999, I think the time has come for me to start a blog, a safe space where I can put down all those thoughts and ideas be them professional or recreational, a keepsake of projects big and small, and because if it’s not on the internet, why bother doing it?

This used to be a site generated using Pelican, with a theme customized from Alchemy and comments handled by Isso, a static site with a very tweakable interface. However, this didn’t bode too well for reusing on other projects to be handled by other, less “command line interface driven” folk. And I couldn’t be bothered to create a proper UI to handle things, so...
Then I moved to using Wagtail, and therefore django. It was always a work in progress.
Now, resigned to the limits of my human-like attention, it became apparent I keep postponing writing about things I am doing because I need to fix this, or update that and as such I am finally third-partying the platform in which I will keep this “dear diary” of sorts. You know, like all the cool kids do :)
